The best bang for your buck in car stereo amplifiers is the Bazooka Tube — a subwoofer and amplifier in one convenient tube. As any simple internet search for Bazooka Tube reviews will show you, the tube combines convenience and amazing sound in one (relatively) small package. There are various sizes and strengths of the tube: anywhere from 6 to 12 inches in diameter and 100 to 250 Watts of power. Not surprisingly, the larger the diameter and wattage, the louder and more powerful the tube will be. And the more expensive it will be, of course. I ended up going with the 10 inch, 200 Watt tube. Fairly mid to upper range in price and power. The tube itself can be placed anywhere in the vehicle: the most common locations would be behind the driver/passenger seat or (my preference) in the car’s trunk. The tube itself will vibrate quite a bit so the temptation is to put it directly behind the driver’s seat — thus creating a sort of back massager/amplifier in one. The problem with this, though, is even if you can fit the tube directly behind the back seat it will more or less prevent anyone from being able to sit behind the driver. This may or may not be a problem for you. For me, I’d rather not take the chance so I had it installed in the trunk.Once you’ve decided where to place the tube you must then run wires directly from the car battery to the tube itself. I’m not as electronically inclined as I’d like to be, and until I reach that point I will continue to have others install such things for me. So I did some searching around town to see who might be able to install it.My first search was for locations who sold Bazooka tubes. I ended up buying mine online because it was cheaper than anywhere I could find locally. But I still had to find someone to install it. So I started my search with locations that sold it and when I determined I could buy it online, I began calling around to see who might be able to install it. I started first with Best Buy and Circuit City and found out the former didn’t sell or install while the latter did both. It just so happens I had Circuit City install mine a couple years ago, but unfortunately Circuit City doesn’t exist anymore so that’s not beneficial information. I checked with Fry’s, another popular electronics store that installs electronics (and where I happened to get my alarm system), but they didn’t sell or install the tubes. I also checked with local car electronics stores and a couple would install it, but it was more expensive than Circuit City. Thus I made the choice I did.The installation ended up costing me around $100 I believe it was. Not great, but not bad either. Like I said it was the best price for installation I could find, and I found the tube online for $100 less than I could get it at Circuit City so I basically got the installation for free after all was said and done. The installation took just a couple hours and when I drove my car away I couldn’t stop smiling for hours. And my ears stopped bleeding shortly after that… Trust me: after you get the first one installed you’ll love it and you’ll be tempted to get a second one or even a third one. Just simply awesome in every sense of the word.
