About the Iowa DOT written test

The Iowa knowledge test (often searched as the Iowa permit test or Iowa DMV test) checks that new drivers understand road signs, traffic laws and safe driving habits before getting a learner's permit. The questions come from the official Iowa driver handbook published by the Iowa Department of Transportation.

Iowa applicants pass a knowledge test and vision test to receive an instruction permit, and the test is based on the Iowa Driver's License Manual. Iowa also lets parents proctor the test at home or lets participating schools give it through the Skip the Trip program.
