About the New Jersey MVC written test

The New Jersey knowledge test (often searched as the New Jersey permit test or New Jersey DMV test) checks that new drivers understand road signs, traffic laws and safe driving habits before getting a learner's permit. The questions come from the official New Jersey driver handbook published by the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission.

New Jersey drivers under 21 move through a graduated licensing program: knowledge and vision tests, a supervised practice period, a road test, and then a probationary license with restrictions. The New Jersey Driver Manual from the MVC is the official study guide.
